Anita Griffith was presumably born in either 1993 or 1994 at Loew Rheinmetall Industries' Florida research facility. Her parentage is unknown, although a Dr. Zachary Griffith and Dr. Elaine Griffith are listed as having worked at said facility at the time. From infancy on she was one of the subjects used in the production of LRI's different cyborg models. Anita was modified into a "C-type", a model specializing in scientific and technical work; C-types are also often the "operators" for Bishop-class A-types. The cybernetic modifications she was given are mostly contained in her nervous system; they include microchip implants in her brain, an artificial spine, augmented and artificial nerve tissue, as well as microprocessors that monitor her biosigns and the activity of the other implants. Like other C-type cyborgs, Anita possesses enhanced intelligence and the ability to interface directly with the Net or different computer/electronics systems; she can also communicate with other cyborgs via a semi-telepathic "Network", an ability common to all of LRI's models. The cyberization process required long periods in healing stasis, which had the overall effect of slowing her growth during childhood; as a result, she appears younger than her actual age.
After Second Impact occurred, LRI was among the firms whose assets were acquired by Gehirn. Anita was shipped to Gehirn's base of operations in Germany, where she was discovered by Dr. Kyoko Zeppelin Soryu. As the European Union had passed laws banning involuntary or "hostile" cyberization, Dr. Soryu adopted the girl to prevent her from being taken into U.N. custody. Anita lived with Kyoko and her young daughter Asuka until the doctor's death in 2005, after which Ryoji Kaji became the two girls' guardian. While Asuka was trained as the pilot of Unit-02, Anita entered Nerv as an officer trainee; her admittance at such a young age was due to her being a child prodigy, much like her adoptive sister. In 2010, she was completed her training and began work in Nerv-Germany's Section 1, where she later joined the research team for Special Projects.
